SURPRISE VALLEY ACOUSTIC JAM Bluegrass, Country, Cowboy, Cowgrass, Folk, Gospel, Old Time and almost any other kind of music!

First and Third Fridays of each month, 7 PM to 10 PM Senior Citizens Center, Main Street, Cedarville This is a “players jam” in which we can learn from each other in an informal setting, regardless of background or experience. Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate. All acoustic instruments are appropriate. A big Main Street Parade at 11 a.m. celebrating America’s Independence. Extensive Classic Car show. Dance, horseshoes and other activities for everyone in Veterans Park. Lots of country music.

July - Date TBA -  Lost River: Story of the Modoc Indian War, Alturas

An outdoor pageant portraying the only California-Indian War. It was about six months long, 1872-3. Concluded April 11, 1873 with the killing of General Canby by “Captain Jack”, a Modoc Indian.

August 19 - 22 - Modoc County Fair: “The Last Frontier” in Cedarville.

The annual County Fair of Modoc. Extensive crafts, historical exhibits, commercial booths, flowers and agriculture. Future Farmers of America. Country music for all. Local ranchers rodeo competition. Athletic tournaments. Great food and barbecue. Kids carnival rides.

September - Date TBA - Alturas Balloonfest, Alturas

Chamber of Commerce sponsor. Enjoy a hot air balloon ride high over the area.

Delicious pancake breakfast starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday evening a community barbeque including a balloon “nightglow” at dusk.
